After high-profile accidents involving older drivers (such as the 2003 Santa Monica farmer's market accident), there has been much discussion of questions like: Do older drivers really pose a greater risk to public safety, or is that a misconception? What is the best way to protect the driving public from unsafe older drivers, while being fair to the safe older drivers - and how can we tell the difference in the first place? How does Colorado currently manage our older driving population? Can new technology help to keep older drivers safely on the road, or is it driving them to distraction (literally)?

Come to the September meeting of the Rocky Mountain Human Factors and Ergonomics Society for answers! The meeting will feature a panel discussion with the following panelists:

Joan Vecchi, Colorado Motor Vehicle Division, driver control section Lila Laux, author of "Aging Techniques" in Jon Weimer's Research Techniques in Human Engineering Beth Meyer, co-author of "Functional limitations to daily living tasks in the aged: A focus group analysis" in the Human Factors journal

The meeting will be held at Garcia's Restaurant at 5050 S. Syracuse, a block east of I-25 at the Denver Tech Center. We will start with social time and dinner at the restaurant at about 6:00 (attendees order and pay individually), then start the program by about 7:30.

Please send Beth Meyer a note at president@rmhfes.org if you plan to attend, so that we can give the restaurant a rough count. See you there!
